Current Topics offers Students a Science option that covers areas of Science that students participate in selecting and designing. One of the main goals of this course is to create interest in Science that will extend past Senior High School and ensure that graduates are Scientifically literate.

The course is structured around three core units that teach Scientific skills that can be applied to units that students select themselves.

The core units are:

  1. Cellular Biology

a. The Cell

b. Cell division

c. Cells and Cancer

d. Pathology Activity

   2. Epidemiology

            a. The nature of disease

            b. Immune System slide Shoe

            c. Investigating an Epidemic

            d. Specific and Non-Specific defenses

            e. Evaluation

 3.   Forensics

            a. Science In the Movies ( Manitoba Museum)

            b. Blood

            c. Crime Scene analysis

            d. Multiple lab activities

Each class is packaged into modular form. Students who miss classes are able to catch up by working through the lessons on their own.

Grades are calculated using 70% of test grades and 30% of Assignment grades

The rest of the course is student generated and has featured topics that have included:

  1. Reproduction
  2. Drugs and alcohol
  3. Winter survival
  4. History of Medicine
  5. Global Warming, Fact or Fiction
  6. Head Injury
