Phys. Ed. is compulsory in S1 and S2.

Physical Education 10G Senior 1                               PHER1G

            S1 Physical Education is a compulsory Senior 1 credit course.  The S1 units are organized with physical activities and health classes in each rotation and classes rotate through each of the activities.  Physical Education activities include both team and individual activities.  Health topics may include: active living and wellness, drug and alcohol awareness, relationships with family and friends, reproductive health, sexual decision making and sexual harassment awareness.

Senior 2/3:  Physical Education 25F  A and B                                                      

Senior 2 Physical Education is a compulsory course that is required for high school graduation.  Students will complete 8 blocks for a ½ credit in Senior 2 and an additional 7 blocks for the second ½ of the credit in Senior 3. Kelvin High School is offering S2 Physical Education within a block system that allows students to complete the Physical Education credit over a two year time frame.  This allows students more choice in their activities and also provides more opportunity for students to maintain physical activity throughout the high school years.   

 Requirements:

·        8 or more blocks must be taken in S2.  The remaining blocks will be taken in S3 (each block is a 6 day school cycle).

·        ½ credit at S2 and ½ credit at S3

·        11 activity blocks must be taken over the two years of the course.

·        4 health blocks must be taken over the two years of the course.(Fitness, Nutrition, St. John’s, Issues in Health & Sport)

·        Senior 2 students must take Fitness, Nutrition, and one other health in their first year of the course.

 Evaluation:

·        Activity Courses:  90% Daily Mark / 10% Test or Alternative Assessment.

·        Health Courses:   50% Daily Work / 50% Written Test (last day of block). 

If you miss a written test you must make arrangements to write the test within 2 weeks of the test date!

Attendance Policy  (Please note that this is a half course)

3 Absences = Home Contact

6 Absences = Attendance Referral to Office

9 Absences = Administration Referral (may be withdrawn from course)     

 Other Information:

  • You may take an activity block twice but not during the same semester.
  • If you are involved in an extracurricular physical activity that is either school or community based (adult instructor), you can apply to have your participation count for a block (maximum of 2 blocks).  An application must be completed for Kelvin activities and an application and activity assignment must be completed for community activities.
  • One copy of your schedule must be taken home for your caregiver(s) to review and sign  your permission form.  You must return the signed tear-off to your teacher.
