S2 Pre-Calculus mathematics is one of the three mathematics options for S2 students.  This is a challenging course designed for those students who wish to pursue a mathematics-related career.   A grade of 75% or greater in the S1 math course is recommended.  Good work habits, a real effort, and organization are important.  Daily homework (aprox. 45 minutes to 1 hour per day) and review are required.  Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.

Expectations for students:

Ø      Students will be punctual and prepared for class.  Class starts promptly when the bell rings, and students are expected to be ready to work with all supplies at that time.  The homework from the previous day must be completed and corrected.   Keep your work organized in a binder.

Ø      This course has duration of one semester.  The pace will be much faster than S1 and student’s who do not understand a concept will need to come for extra help on their own time.  Help is available from 3:30 to 4:15 Monday to Thursday.

Ø      If a student needs to miss a class for any reason, it is the student’s responsibility to borrow notes from a classmate and determine the missed assignment, then see me at 3:30 if they require help.

Supplies          Pencils, erasers, red pen

3 ring binder with dividers, loose leaf, graph paper

                        Compass, protractor, ruler,             Scientific calculator

Evaluation      The final grade for this math course will be based on term marks (70%), and the final exam (30%).

Each term mark is based on 75% test marks, 25% assignments and

mental math.  You need an exam mark of at least 40% to get a credit.

Tests missed for illness or another acceptable reason must be

explained by a parent by the end of the next school day for a retest

to be scheduled.

Testing           Test writing is important and is done every second Friday.  All tests

are cumulative.  To help your parents monitor your progress, you will

be required to have your parents sign all tests.  Each test must be

corrected and signed.  In exchange, I will drop your lowest test mark

of the course when marks are calculated in June.

If you start experiencing difficulties, come for extra help immediately!  Concerns?  Let’s talk.
