The diversity of topics makes the S1 math course interesting and challenging.  Good work habits, a real effort, and organization are important.  Daily homework and review are required.  Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.  Always bring your supplies to class.  Keep your work organized in a binder.

 

Text                Minds on Math, published by Addison-Wesley, 1996

Supplies        Pencils, erasers, red pen

                        3 ring binder with dividers, loose leaf, graph paper

                        Compass, protractor, ruler

                        Scientific calculator (Texas Instrument or Casio recommended)

Evaluation      The final grade for this math course will be based on the first term

(15%), the second term (20%) which includes the midterm exam, the

third term (15%), the forth term (20%), and the final exam (30%). 

Each term mark is based on 65% test marks, 35% assignments,

mental math quizzes, ect.

Testing          Test writing is important and is done every second Friday.  All tests

are cumulative.  To help your parents monitor your progress, you will

be required to have your parents sign all tests.  Each test must be

corrected and signed.

Did you know?

Students coming from the eighth grade should already be able to:

Ø      Basic computations with fractions, decimals, and whole numbers

Ø      Work with rate, ratio, percentage

Ø      Calculations with area, perimeter, volume

Ø      Equation solving
