General information

 This is the third and final level of the consumer mathematics program. It satisfies the mathematics requirement for certain programs at the post- secondary level. The students must complete a provincial exam with three parts at the end of the semester. This course is a comprehensive and practical look at adult life. Students study buying a home, setting a budget, paying a mortgage and investing their money as well as many other everyday life skills.

Evaluation

 Each of the two terms accounts for 35% of the overall final mark and the provincial exam accounts for 30% of the final mark. Calcul rapide, quizzes and daily work account for 30% of the term mark and projects and tests account for 70%. Time is reserved for review before the provincial exam. We will practice a few previous provincial exams, one of which will be a final test. The provincial exam has three components: a provincial project which extends over a three-period time frame and is worth 30% of the exam mark; a portfolio which includes three different work samples, a personal income tax return and a career research project which together are worth 30% of the final exam mark and a written test which is worth 40% of the final exam mark. The provincial exam mark is recorded separately on the final report card.

 

 

Materials

 The textbook Explorations 12 is used in this course. A scientific calculator and a geometry set are required for certain topics.
