Applied Math 20S (APMR2S)

Prerequisite: MATR1F (70% or more recommended)
Applied Math 20S is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in Engineering,
Architecture, Science, the Technologies, or Mathematics. The emphasis is on critical thinking
and analysis of data using technology as a tool. Applied Mathematics is data-driven. Students
collect data in experiments and activities, and develop mathematical concepts from analysis of
that data.

Students are expected to work both individually and in small groups and to demonstrate
responsibility, flexibility, and independence in their learning. Topics include use of spreadsheets,
technical communication, exploring mathematics using technology, linear models and patterns,
2D/3D projects, relations and functions, coordinate geometry, measurement technology,
trigonometry, data management. This challenging course may be taken concurrently with Pre-
Calculus Math 20S. A TI-83 Plus graphing calculator is required. This is not an easy course and
is on par with Pre-Calculus 20S. It assumes a sound knowledge of basic algebra.
