Advanced Topics in Mathematics 11G (MATY1G)

This course is offered to S1 students as an option in addition to the S1
Foundations
Mathematics course. In today’s changing world students must be mathematically
literate. They
should have a variety of experiences that encourage them to develop mathematical
habits.
Students must be involved in active learning that relates mathematics to
personal experiences.
Real world situations, practical applications and human activities will serve as
mathematical
opportunities for students in the S1 Enriched Mathematics course.
Students will be given opportunities to: investigate and explore math ideas,
research
mathematical topics, work independently and collaboratively on assignments and
projects,
problem solve and participate in mathematical contests, apply mathematics to
real life situations
and reflect on their mathematical learning.
This course will integrate mathematical knowledge, skills and process with
conceptual
development and strategize problem solving in a cross-curricular setting. As
students explore,
guess, check, apply, discuss and interpret mathematics, they will continue to
develop confidence
in their mathematical abilities.
