Senior 4

Mathematics SL IB (MAMB4S) and
Advanced Mathematics/Calculus 45A (ADMR4A, CALR4A)
Mathematics SL IB 42S:
In S4 (Grade 12), students study Calculus (differential and integral), sequence,
vectors,
further analytic geometry, and probability. Emphasis is placed on the logical
development of the
theory and in applications of the theory. Problem solving is an important
feature of this
curriculum. Students will be prepared to write the IB Math Methods Standard
Level examination
in May of the S4 year.
Advanced Mathematics/Calculus 45A:
This course combines Advanced Mathematics 45A (ADMR4A) and Calculus 45A
(CALR4A) which will appear as two 1/2 credits on the report card. Topics include
calculus, and
selected math topics such as matrices, complex numbers, induction, and difficult
algebraic
manipulations. This course is intended for students who are particularly
interested in
Mathematics and intend to specialize in Math related courses ie: Calculus at
university. It is
important to realize that MATR4S must be taken before this course is begun, or
in conjunction
with it. Furthermore, MATR4S is a required course for entry to university,
whereas this course is
not. This course is useful for those preparing for the Waterloo Euclid Contest.
