A proud moment from the recent past...

Reach for the Top

Number One Public School in Canada

National Champions!

Wednesday, April 24th, 2002 marked an historic first at école secondaire Kelvin High School... at least in the annals of the decades-old tradition of excellence in Reach for the Top, the Canadian high school knowledge quiz/competition.  It was on that day that Kelvin's Intermediate Reach for the Top team, composed  of Senior I and II students, achieved their second provincial championship.  How, then, is this a first?  Here is how:  Kelvin is now the proud possessor of two provincial titles simultaneously, as we are the home of Manitoba's top team both in the senior (grades 9 through 12)  and the intermediate levels of play.

Kelvin's Intermediate Reach encountered five other teams from St. John's Ravenscourt, Balmoral Hall, Grant Park, Pinawa and Roseau Valley, all of which had emerged as finalists from amongst 20-odd Intermediate division teams in Manitoba.  Kelvin was paired with Pinawa in the final and emerged victorious, scoring 50 points ahead of the gifted offspring of nuclear physicists.

Congratulations go to Intermediate team mates Mark Witiuk, Ian Foster, Allison Hasselfield, Jonathan Linley, Leigh Moyer and Darran Hirose.

Reach welcomes Senior I players Justin Ling and Charlie Lovat... All students are welcome to play Reach for fun, everyday in room 35 at noon hour.  We are proud to afford all students who wish an opportunity to join in tournament play... Kelvin's Reach declines the practice of only using "the best" players in competitive tournaments, with excellent results.
For more information, contact coaches John Martens or Raymond Sokalski.

Kelvin's Senior Reach for the Top team won the Provincial Championship on April 17, 2002.
The team now qualifies to travel to the nationally-televised Reach for the Top Canadian Finals to be held this year in Edmonton, May 25 to 29.
See a school administrator to help support the team in their quest for intellectual gold.
Donations welcome!

Reach for the Top is a "Jeopardy" - like quiz game in which participants match wits on topics ranging from pop culture to advanced physics.  Kelvin's Reach meets every noon hour in Room 35.
