École Kelvin High School is home to Manitoba's most comprehensive Asia Pacific Studies program:
Asia Pacific Studies
No prerequisites; open to all S1 students. This class will provide an overview of the Asia Pacific Rim countries. The emphasis will be on experiencing as much that the cultures have to offer as possible, through speakers (exchange students, Youth Mines Action Ambassador), visits to Winnipeg's Chinatown, T'ai Ch'i, cooking, calligraphy and so on. It is hoped that a better awareness of the Asia Pacific region will inspire students to deepen their knowledge through subsequent learning experiences.

Why take Asia-Pacific Studies? Canada's links to Asia have been expanding considerably over the last three decades, most notably with respect to immigration and trade. For example, between 1961 and 1996, 1.4 million new Canadians were from Asia. Understanding Asia leads to greater global harmony, and knowledge of Asia opens new and exciting career opportunities. The program is exciting and unique. |
