Research. Not all categories are treated in equal depth for each culture

History Online
A synchronoptic (seeing at the same time) view of history
which allows you to see inter-relationships between events, places, and
people. Although it takes a while catch on to its navigation, it does
offer a variety of timelines for a variety of categories of information.

offers a variety of resources and insights into international development

Database
A frequently-updated database containing visuals and the

Advertising
for Immigrants to Western Canada
Canada's Museum of Civilization has many exhibits depicting
immigration to Canada. This site highlights the Canadian government's
aggressive advertising campaign, designed to lure farmers and farm workers in
Britain, the United States, and Europe to "the last best west",
western Canada.
The
Canadian Wartime Experience: the Documentary Experience of Canada at War
This site, hosted by the University of Manitoba's Special
Collections and Archives, provides access to a collection of text documents and
photos selected from a variety of collections. A link is also provided to
a site featuring the role of conscientious objectors during World War II.
Democracy
at War: Canadian Newspapers and the Second World War
A searchable online archive containing a collection of more than 144,000
articles taken from the clippings of the Hamilton Spectator. Most
newspaper archives are available only on microfilm in major urban centres, so
this is a unique resource. As well, the site, from the Canadian War
Museum, is available in both English and French.
Dictionary of Canadian Biography
On-Line
The online DCB/DBC presents biographies of significant
figures in Canadian
history written by leading authorities. It spans the years from 1000 to 1920
in 14 volumes. Available in both official languages.

Historic Sites (Parks Canada)
Canada's national park system is home to a series of
commemorations of historically-significant persons, places, and things.
This web-site provides lists of the various places where such commemorations can
be found.
New
France - New Horizons
A joint project of the Direction des Archives de France and
the Nation Library and Archives Canada -- documents and images of the French
experience in North America are provided on this site.
Parliament
Hill
Titled "A Treasure to Explore", this offers a
"virtual" tour of the grounds, Peace Tower, office blocks, and Library
of Canada's Parliament Buildings.
Pier 21
For many immigrants, Pier 21, Halifax, NS, is the site of
their first landing in Canada. This site commemorates and celebrates this
historic port of entry to Canada.

Railroad in Canada
Canadian and
American history has intersected at many points - the search for freedom from
slavery led many African-Americans to seek freedom in Canada, following a secret

information and research, with world-class expertise focusing on geoscience

protection, and technology innovation. It is a part of the Earth Sciences sector
of Natural Resources Canada and provides information on Canada's landscape and
earth forms.

variety of maps: world maps, U. S. maps, historical maps, and much
more. An excellent source of current mapped information.

changing map of Canada through its history. Click a date on the time-line
and see how the map changes.

Atlas of the United States
The focus of this atlas is not on maps, but on information
about the United States, its geography and socio-cultural landscape.

Flanders Fields Museum
This museum in Ieper (formerly Ypres), Belgium, offers a
number of
visual and textual resources about the Great War 1914-18 (i.e World War I), much
of which took place nearby. Note that some of the content depicts great
destruction and is disturbing.
