Parking
"Safety Before Convenience" is the motto we have at this school. Parents should not use the parking lot as a drop off or pick up point for their children. We are concerned for your child's safety when they run into the parking lot and cars are coming and going. Please park on the street and walk your child to the school from there. Please also remember that there is no parking on the North side of John Brebeuf Place between the hours of 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and on the South side of John Brebeuf Place there is a No Stopping Zone in front of the front doors as well as an area designated as a No Parking Area.
Newsletter and Parent Notices
Communication between the home and school on a regular basis is important in establishing an effective home-school partnership. Our monthly newsletter is published the last week of each month and goes home with the oldest child in each family. Please check the newsletter for important information. The school and classroom teachers often send home notices and information sheets. Please check your child's backpack daily for any school news that might be sent.
Student Assessment and Reporting
Teachers are continually evaluating the progress of their students. The reporting periods will be in November, March, April and June. There are two parent / teacher conferences scheduled during these reporting times. Two-way communication is essential to help plan and provide your child with the best possible learning environment. We encourage parents / guardians to be actively involved with their child's learning and to contact teachers whenever possible if they have any questions or concerns. We also ask that the teachers contact the home if they need to communicate for any reason with the parents regarding issues or progress.
Lunch Program
The supervision of students during the lunch hour in all W.S.D. #1 schools is the responsibility of the Parent Councils or Parent Run Lunch Programs. All children attending the lunch program at École J. B. Mitchell School must have a registration form completed in order to attend. Registration forms are available at the school office. The registration fee is $10.00 per family. The monthly fee for lunch supervision is $19.00 for the first child, $15.00 for the second child and $10.00 for the third child attending. There is a drop in rate of $2.00 per day. Please make cheques payable to J. B. Mitchell Lunch Program. If you need more information please phone the school and we will have one of the Lunch Program committee members return your call.
Milk Program
In conjunction with the lunch programs, École J. B. Mitchell School offers a milk program. Milk cartons ( 250ml ) are available during the lunch hour. To receive milk on a daily basis parents may pay $30.00 in advance for the school year or $12.00 for the months of September to December and $18.00 for the months of January to June. Please make cheques payable to École J. B. Mitchell School. If you have not paid for the milk program in advance, students may pay 15 cents on a daily basis.
