Text Box: Building the Home and School Connection
Text Box: Students of all ages benefit when there’s a true partnership between home and school. As parents, that means getting involved and showing your child that you value his or her schoolwork, accomplishments and school life. This gives you and your child a stronger connection to your school, community and each other. Be visible by volunteering, chaperoning a class trip or joining your Parent Council. Ask questions to get your child talking about his or her school day.
Talk to your child’s teacher about your child’s strengths and what he or she needs. This can happen anytime, but Parent Teacher conferences are especially important.
Set the stage for success by giving your child a regular time, place and the tools to do homework - including
paper, sharpened pencil, eraser, ruler and a clock.
Review, but don’t do your child’s homework. Make sure he or she understands the assignment and has a plan for getting it done.
It’s more important than ever that you stay involved once your child reaches high school.
Check in at your school with your children’s teachers, principal, classmates and other parents.
We all have a role to play in keeping our schools strong.
