Inkster School Parent Council

May 2008 News

May is going to be a hectic month here in the school. There are lots of field trips and events that the students will be taking part in.

Over the last five years, this parent advisory council has had the premise that all that we do should be to further the value of the education that the students receive here at Inkster School.  All of our fundraisers, including the special ones, like the Show & Save, as well as our monthly hot lunches allow us to enable the teachers at the school to provide extra field trips and special events.  This year we gave every classroom an extra field trip, most at a cost of more than $100 each, and provided the athletics groups with money for new equipment as well as money for the track and field event at the U of Manitoba. We also provided more than $3000.00 to the music program in the school.  This money was for 5 new xylophones, and $900.00 for the Christmas concert.

As you are aware, the Parent Council held a Social in early April.  I have to say that I was disappointed in the lack of response to the event from the parents.  We made a profit of approximately $1000.  This event was to help raise funds to continue the work that Parent Council does for your children.  The monies that we hoped to raise would have         reduced the cost of camp next year and supplied much needed resources to allow our commitment to the teachers of an extra field trip a year to continue next year.

This month, on May 6th, we will be having our Parent Advisory Council elections.  It is important that you attend this meeting as the people that are running for the elected positions will have an important role to play in your child’s school.  Being a Parent Council Executive member is not to be taken lightly.  There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes.  You as a parent need to be sure that the people that are elected to these positions will follow through on the commitment that they accept.

As always, free child care is provided in room 10. The meeting takes place in the school Library at 6:30 PM.

This month’s Hot Lunch is Panago Pizza on May 30th.  Please remember, that because we have to order 1 week in advance, we can not accept late orders.

Take care and enjoy May.                                                                                         Tracy Ball

Inkster School Lunch Program

May 2008 News

Welcome to the warm :) spring weather!  It will warm up eventually and we will all be grateful when it does.

I want to thank all of the families who brought in toys for the Jar Bar.  We had a great two days of fun and managed to raise $90.00 in the process.  This money will go towards the  Lunch Program Windup in June.

We will be having an internal Hot Lunch on May 15th.  We are going to be doing TACOS.  The kids are really excited about this one.  Order forms will be coming home in the next week.

In the next couple of weeks you will also be receiving renewal forms for Lunch Program.  These must be returned by the due date in order to ensure your child’s spot in Lunch Program for 2008/09.  Any forms not returned by the due date will assume that your child is not returning and we will allocate the spot to another child.  Also, any families with

outstanding balances at the end of the school year, will not be allowed to return to Lunch Program until all monies are paid in full.

To parents with children who are in Lunch Program and have younger siblings that will be coming to Lunch Program next year, please note that you must apply for a position for the younger child.  Siblings are not automatically accepted into Lunch Program.

We are also looking for a few more employees for our roster for next year.  If you would like to be part of our team, we would love to hear from you.  See Tracy during the lunch hour or call 586-6719.

That’s it for May.                                                                                                        Inkster School Lunch Program
