Text Box: Welcome back to a brand new year at Inkster school!

It always seems that the holiday season flies by so quickly as we visit with family and friends! I hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday!

I would like to congratulate Mrs. Peters for organizing the Winter Concerts on Dec. 18th and 19th. The students performed beautifully at both concerts! It was great to see so many families in attendance! Thank-you for your donations to our hampers and / or silver collection at our Winter Concerts as well. We were able to provide support to families in need within our community. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Our student hamper project was a huge success! Thank-you to all of our students and their families for your care and compassion as you donated food, toys and money for other children and families in need. Thank-you for your generosity! A special thank-you to the students and staff of Room 5 for their work in organizing and coordinating the project!

January will be a busy academic month as students and teachers buckle back down into their regular routines. As an introduction to February’s I Love to Read month, Prairie Theater Exchange will be presenting “Munsch Ado About Nothing” on January 15th at 1:30 pm. Parents are welcome to attend.

We are making some changes to the Science Fair this year. Although we will continue to keep our divisional science fair spaces at Tec Voc, there will not be a formal Science Fair at Inkster School. For those students interested in completing a project, eligible for the WSD Science Fair, we will be sending a letter outlining the relevant details, deadlines and divisional criteria later in January. The completion of science fair projects is voluntary and students will be expected to complete them entirely at home.

It is very important that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. January is a very cold month! Students will continue to go outside for short recess periods in order to continue to stimulate their brains with fresh air and their bodies with physical activity. If the temperature and wind chill are below –28 degrees Celsius, the students will stay inside.

With the cold weather and flu season here, it is important that we remember to practice infection and germ prevention! Our best defense from the flu is to limit the spread of the disease. The best way to do this is to practice and teach our children good hand washing and cough and sneeze etiquette. Refrain from coughing into the air and in others’ faces. Cover your mouth when you cough with the inside of your elbow. Remember to use a tissue when you have to sneeze and dispose of that tissue into a garbage bin. Washing your hands immediately will help to prevent the spread of these germs. Please remind your children of these preventative measures. If your child is ill, please keep him / her at home. Remember that if your child is well enough to attend school, he / she will be required to go outside for fresh air at recess and lunch time.
