February 2008 News

We spent a lot of time indoors in January due to the very cold weather. We hope to put all of that behind us and get the children outside to play. They really do need to run off that energy that they have built up during the day.

Once again, it’s tax time and I have only heard from a few people with regards to the tax receipts. If you wish a tax receipt, please contact our office before the 15th of February to ensure that yours will be ready by the end of February. We do not issue tax receipts without a request.

We will be having our Annual General Meeting in February. Dates and more information will be sent home in the next few days. If there is a need, free child care will be provided. Please RSVP as soon as possible.

We will be having an internal hot lunch day in February. This is the one that we postponed in November. We will be offering chicken strips and perogies. Your child may order any part of the package they wish. More information will be sent home with the students.

There is not much more that is new around here. We hope that you have a great month.

			February Music News

Exciting things have been happening in the music room in January: Room 8 and Room 6 have begun learning how to play their recorders. Room 2 and Room 3 are learning to play their own melodies on our Orff instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, and metallophones).
Room 7 presented their own compositions on instruments of their choice. Room 5 and Portable have begun preparing for their visit to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in May, as well as playing instruments. Room 9, Room 10, Room 1, Room, 36 and Room 34 have been playing singing games.

Honour Choir and Intermediate Choir are preparing for the Winnipeg Music Festival. They will be singing on Tuesday, February 26, 10:00 a.m. Watch for permission forms coming soon.

Talent Show: Start practicing your singing, acting, dancing, juggling, or other talent! The Talent Show is coming up on Friday, March 28. There will be two shows, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with a mix of primary and intermediate in each show. In order to keep the show to a reasonable length each student should choose only one act to present. Try-outs will happen starting March 5 during recess times. We're looking forward to another great show!

Call Back System
A gentle reminder: It is important for parents to call the school if your child is going to be away. We want to ensure our children arrive at school safely.

Medications
All medications, including cold medicine, must be given to your child at home or by a parent/guardian unless a health plan has been developed between the school administrator and the parents/guardians. Please do not send medication to school with your child, without first speaking to Mrs. Intrater.
