The school social worker's role in schools is to work with families, children
and teachers to enable students to be more successful at school.
This can involve working only with parents, or the student individually as
well as close communication with the classroom teacher. Frequently groups are
run with students, usually focused around communication skills, behaviour
difficulties and problem solving. Occasionally parent groups or information
seminars are held. The school personnel is a vital part of the teaming needed to
ensure children are more successful in school. The school social worker is part
of the team from the Child Guidance Clinic as well as showing connections with
the larger community.
