| Reading clinicians work with children whom the school has already identified
as having learning problems. Services include in-depth assessments to identify
the strengths and weaknesses a particular child may bring to the learning
situation, to find out what the learning problem is, the possible cause(s) of
the difficulties and to suggest or explore the most effective instructional
strategies. In order to do this a child usually is seen individually over a
period of time followed by consultation with teachers and others concerned. The
reading clinicians work closely with other support people at the school.
Follow-up could also include a period of diagnostic tutoring to suggest
referrals to other professions such as eye doctors, to support a referral to a
special program such as the Diagnostic Learning Centre located outside the
home school, etc. |
