| The physiotherapist is employed by School Therapy Services, main office at
the Rehabilitation Centre for Children. Before initiating involvement with a
student we must receive written consent from the parent/guardian. The child's
physician is also notified; consent and medical information is requested of the
physician. The physiotherapist is responsible for assessing the student and
planning appropriate interventions based on each student's individual needs.
Reassessment occurs regularly and therapy records are maintained. We initiate
and maintain communication with parents, school and community personnel
(teacher, teacher assistant, occupational therapist, speech therapist, special
education resource teacher, social worker, etc.). Training school staff
regarding proper use of equipment and techniques occurs regularly with
follow-up. Student's special devices (equipment) need to be reviewed and
suggestions for change are made in consultation with parents/guardians, school
staff and the special devices clinic team at the Rehabilitation Centre for
Children.
