Dear Students, Parents and Community Members
Welcome to Hugh John Macdonald School and the new 2007-8 school year! It is a privilege for me as the new Principal and Ms. Churman, our new Vice-Principal to join a diverse and dynamic learning community here at Hugh John. We look forward with anticipation to developing respectful and meaningful learning dialogues and relationships with our students, staff and parents. Joining us this year are Mr. Barak Mymin, our new Physical Education/Leadership teacher, Ms. Connie Buoncoure, our new Grade 8 English and Science teacher and Colleen Lariviere, our new Educational Assistant in the Life Skills Program, and Mr. Robin Dyer, our new Community Support Worker. In additional, we are anticipating the appointment of our School Resource Officer, which as you may or may not be aware, is a position that is in the first of a three year project. As well, there will be a Cross-Cultural Support Worker assigned to work with our diverse community at Hugh John.
One of the most meaningful ways for parents to enrich their children’s learning is constructive parental involvement with their children and collegial dialogues with staff. We invite you to be involved in the following beginning of the year opportunities to be involved in your child learning. The first opportunity is our “Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 starting at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. We will be meeting in the cafeteria for a snack before parents are invited to meet their teachers. The second opportunity is our first Parent Council gathering scheduled for Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 5:30 pm, where there will also be a light snack. Please make a point to sign up at Meet the Teacher on the sign-up sheet.
An important package of information for the year will be sent home with your child. The package contains important information and forms which must be signed by parents/guardians and returned to the school. If you have not received this package, please ask your child or call the school for a package.
Finally, we are requesting that parents/guardians call the school if your child is absent or late and do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers or the administration team if you have any questions. We look forward to meeting and working jointly with you to give your child the best and most positive learning experience at Hugh John Macdonald School.
Mr.
