HUGH JOHN MACDONALD

Principal’s Message

We are approaching the end of term one and the days have flown by rapidly.   Students have settled back into school routine and Intramurals, Volleyball, Weight-lifting, and Dance clubs are well underway.  A huge thank-you to all the staff that make these activities available to our students.  Please feel free to come out and support our Volleyball teams in their competitions, it always helps to have good home game support!  Thank you also to our Student Council and Mr. Glen Henson for organizing and advertising Spirit Week.

The renovations to our library and theatre are almost complete and should be open for students and staff to use by the end of November.  The renovations to the gym are completed and our gym is in use for school and community events from 7:30AM until 10:00PM.  It is great to see so many of our students participating in these before and after school opportunities.

We are very excited about two other opportunities for our students that will be starting shortly.  We will be offering support for students in the area of numeracy.  This will be both an in school and after school project, the after school component will take place on Tuesdays after school.  On Wednesdays after school we will be offering Performing Arts classes for interested students that involve dance, percussion and music.  A nutritious snack will be provided prior to both the numeracy and Performing Arts sessions.  More details will follow at a later date.

Our students have started preparation for Student Led Conferences on Thursday, November 29 in the afternoon (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) and evening (5:30 PM - 7:30 PM).  We hope to see most of our families come out and celebrate their child’s achievements at school.  Report Cards will be distributed to parents at that time.

We would like to thank all those parents who have been coming out to Parent Council meetings and encourage anyone who is interested but has not yet managed to come to a meeting to do so.   Please call the school if you need more information.

Finally, please do not hesitate to call your child’s teacher or administration if you have any concerns.  Home and school working as a team will provide the best learning environment for our students.

VOLLEYBALL NEWS

The junior boys volleyball team have been making great strides so far this season.  A team made up of all but one grade 8 student, face a tough challenge as they embark on their league schedule.  Look for this inexperienced but quite talented team to make some noise against their older and bigger opponents.

 Thank you,

Mr. B. Mymin

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

Hello children, parents and staff, my name is Constable Tara.  I am your new SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER.  I have been designated to four schools in the area including Hugh John Macdonald (main office), Victoria Albert School, Pinkham School and Dufferin School.  My goal is to build relationships with the children, their parents as well as the staff that work at each of these schools and the community at large.

Through this relationship building process, it is my hope that I will gain the trust and respect of all those that I deal with.  That I am able to in some small way help those around me realize their goal for the future and then assist in making a plan to turn those goals into realities.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible, and making this a wonderful and safe neighbourhood to live and raise your children.
