Kappen by Christopher
It all began on a cool, Tuesday of October (22). Suddenly, the moment I walked in my mother said, "We got a phone call from the United Nations. Apparently they want you to go into space to explore Kappen. So are you?" my mother asked. "Yes, of course I am. You know me. I love adventure so of course I am going" I said. "Ok, The United Nations said if you said yes you should go to Nasa in Florida" said my mother. "But how am I going to get there?" I asked. "Easy, they said, if you said yes they would send you plane tickets" my mother said. "Yes, I am going to Na..." "But you have to go through some training before you go into space," my mother said interrupting. I wasn't the only one going into space, Chris (me), Genesis, Shella, Johnathan, Voughn-Ray, Joenick, Cory, and Randee-Lee were going to the Intergalatic Training Center to train for launching into space. We went through some serious training. By the time that we were finished, it had taken three whole weeks to complete the training successfully. When it was time to go into space we were all nervous. Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, " any last requests?" Cory asked. I answered, "No." 3, 2, 1, 0 BLAST OFF! We rocketed into space toward Kappen. On the way there we encountered many strange things like giant squid, blue asteroids, red fog, and glowing planets. After one month and seventeen days we arrived at Kappen. When we landed on Kappen's surface we came out with our death rays held up because we didn't know whether, "they" were friendly or evil. But when we came out nobody was there the planet was deserted or so it seemed. So we went looking for signs of life, we searched high and low not stopping until we found something that was alive other than plants. We were searching for life for three weeks but so far we found nothing. We had given up hope for life on this planet but finally high in the mountains we met the dominant species of Kappen, the Veggie Varmints. There was only one of them so far. So we asked "Where are the rest of your species?" "They're past me but in order to get past me you have to answer this math question, the question is two plus three times five_?" he said. I know said Joenick two plus three times five equals twenty-five! "Wrong" he said. "What the, it equals twenty-five" said Joenick furious! "Wrong again!" he said. THAT'S IT YOU'RE TOAST!! said Joenick. Just as he reached for his blaster, I stopped him. "What do you think you're doing, can't you see the gate that is blocking us"? I said. "If you murder him we won't get past" I said. "Ok, ok already, I won't, I won't" said Joenick. "Are you guys going to answer, if not, GET LOST!" he said. "Ummmm...? seventeen?" I said. "Correct you may pass." he said, then he disappeared saying "a brilliant math magician made that rule...".Then without warning we heard a very loud click that shook the ground, and the gate opened to us. When we went through there were billions of them bowing to us like we were their masters. "We came for some resources" I said. Then somebody yelled "we have very few resources, and you want them all so we will die." "No, no I didn't say that" I said. "KILL THEM!!" he said. Then the next second they all pulled out weapons and started to fire. We ran for our lives, the gate was closing, and fast. Within 5 seconds the stage we were on was dust! The gate was all most closed so we jumped and as soon that we made it through, BOOM, the gate was closed. "Pheeeeew we survived" I said. "But not for long the gate may be sixty meters thick but in about five minutes they'll break through and we'll be toast" Cory said. "But how are we going to get to the ship, it's one hundred thousand miles away?" said Randee-Lee. "With this" I said. "It's a remote for the ship, with this I can tell the ship to come here and save us in two minutes" I said. "Well use it already" Cory said. "Ok it'll be here in two minutes" I said. "In the mean time why don't we come up with something to help us find their remaining resources" I said. "But where could they be hiding them?" I said confused. Just then we saw a golden ball lying on the ground with an eerie glow. Cory said "why don't you go see what it is?". I went over there silently not knowing if it will just jump up and kill me, when I got there I picked it up and... nothing happened? It was just an ordinary golden ball with a glow well what do you know it's nothing special, just then I was thinking about chicken and poof chicken in front of me I couldn't believe my eyes there it was, a chicken! "Hey this thing can be used to replenish the Earth's resources" I said. Just then the ship came, we boarded, and left Kappen's surface. Just then with out warning one hundred ships came from Kappen's surface and started to fire. They were winning for a while until we discovered that the ship has machine guns. "They don't stand a chance, after all we have all those years of playing video games, we can't lose" I said. In five minutes the tables turned, and they didn't stand a chance now. "After all they only have ten ships left, make that eight, actually five ships left, my mistake there is actually two ships left, actually there's one ship left" I said. "Bye" I said as I blasted him to another universe. "YEAH! we won!" everyone said. Then we headed home to celebrate. When we got back to Earth we got a warm welcome. "Well I guess this is it " I said to everyone. "Wait but first before we go we have to report to the U.N. remember?" said Cory. "Oh yeah, I completely forgot, well let's go. The report is not going to tell it's self you know" I said. "Fine, lets go" said Joenick. When we got there he asked what happened and of course we had to tell him so we did. By the time we had finished telling him it was late and they all left but me "here" I said "this will help the planet get our resources back just think about something and it will come true, ok?" "Yes" he said when I was almost out of his sight. Report to the United Nations Dear Big Guy, Our visit to Kappen wasn't impressive. They have massive weaponry and they're not friendly beings. In fact if you read our journal you will see how friendly they are. The planet definitely doesn't have the minerals we need. In fact they dump radioactive waste in the ground. The planet's environment is just awful - as bad as it is on Earth. They're running out of resources. The air is dirty from smoke pollutants and there is hardly any food. there is nothing for shelter as their forests have been destroyed for years due to pollution and over cutting. The only good thing on the planet is water. The water is clear and clean due to a cheap filtering system that they have developed. We hope to be able to duplicate the water filtering system here on Earth to help us clean up some of our lakes and rivers. We do not recommend exploring the possibility of relocating humans to Kappen at this time.
