Button Blanket Symbols

Button blankets usually have a picture or a crest of an animal on the back. They only use animals that live in their community like: raven, killer whale, eagles, beaver and wolf.

Then they use three basic shapes to decorate inside the animal design. One shape is called The ''U'' form. The second shape is called an Ovoid. There is also an inner Ovoid that goes inside a larger Ovoid. The last shape that is used is called the ''S'' or ''Z'' shape.

Mr. Haines drew an eagle shape for us and Ms. Fidler made templates using "Paint" software so we could copy and paste symbols into an eagle shape. Somtimes we had to flip or rotate the symbols.
