Reasons for a Potlatch

One of the reasons to hold a Potlatch is to honour the dead. Other reasons are to celebrate a marriage, a birth of a baby or to give a clan name for a child. After a totem pole is finished then the people raise it and celebrate with a Potlatch. One more reason to hold a Potlatch is to dedicate a house for someone who will live inside of it. But first, a family has to plan a Potlatch before they do it.
