Potlatch Gifts

by Eric and Scott

At a Potlatch giving gifts is the most important part. The gifts are given at the end of the potlatch. The elders get to sit at the front and they get their gifts first.

The host who is giving the Potlatch makes all different kinds of gifts. His friends and family help him make the gifts too. The host makes wooden spoons, handmade painted drums, beaded leather purses, blankets, artwork, and posters. Mugs and note pads are bought and given as gifts.

Food is also given as gifts. The kind of food given is: salmon, cockles, clams, Indian fry bread, apples, and corn on the cob. As many as 1000 people can eat at a feast.
