Inuit Art

This is my mask. I made it by painting it and carving it and putting feathers and fur on it. I made it to thank the polar bear. He told them how to fly on the ice and gave them food.

This is an example of an Inuit scrimshaw engraving. It is made of carving ivory and filling it in with soot. It shows people hunting whales. This was the important to the Inuit because they need food from a whale and tools from the bones.

This is my engraving. I made it by folding paper and by drawing a seal, igloo, fish, and moon on it and by colouring the inside with different colours of crayon. I made it because the polar bear hunts seal and the Inuit people live in igloos and eat fish.

This is my applique wall hanging. I made it by drawing the animals on the felt and sewing it on the fleece. It shows a baby seal and it has a moon on it. I made it because Inuit people hunt seals for food.

This is my soap stone. I made it out of a stone and then I carved it with a file. Then I sanded it with sandpaper. It shows a bed for the Inuit people to sleep on. I made it because we are learning about Inuit people.

This is my print. I made it by drawing a picture of an inukshuk and tracing the picture on styrofoam. Then I put paint on it and put the styrofoam print on paper. It shows an inukshuk. I made it because the inukshuk shows directions for the Inuit people when they are travelling so they won't get lost.
