Inuit Art

by Keith

This is my mask. I made it with clay. Then I fired it and painted it. I decorated it with feather and fur. It shows an owl. I made it because the owl protects the Inuit.

This is my Inuit soapstone sculpture. I made it by filing it. Then I polished it with sandpaper. It shows a harpoon. I made it because the Inuit use harpoons for hunting seals and whales.

This is an example of an Inuit sculpture by Iola Abraham Ikkidluak. It is made of carved and polished stone. It shows some polar bears fighting. This was important to the Inuit because the polar bear taught the Inuit how to hunt seal and the polar bear gave them fur and meat.

This is my applique wall hanging. I made it by drawing an animal on felt. Then I cut it out and sewed it on fleece with embroidery thread. It shows an owl. I made it because the owl spirit protected the Inuit.

This is my print. I made it by drawing a picture. Then I poked it with a pencil to trace it on styrofoam. Then I rolled paint over it. Then I put a paper on it and pressed down. It shows an igloo. I made it because the Inuit used the igloo for a house.
