Inuit Art

by Karen

This is my engraving. I made it by folding a paper in half. Then I drew pictures on one side. Next I colored the back with crayon. Finally I traced over the pictures. It shows a seal and her mother. I made it because the seal is important to the Inuit.

Inuit art

By Karen Tran

This is my mask. I made it by shaping the clay. Then I painted it and decorated it. It shows an owl spirit. I made it because I heard that the owl is very important to the Inuit. It looks over the people and the animals.

This is an example of an Inuit sculpture of Sedna by A.S. Taleelayuk (1980). It is made of stone .It shows a mermaid-part human and part fish. This was the important to the Inuit because Sedna was the goddess of the sea and ruled the animals of the ocean.

This is my soapstone sculpture. I made it by carving it with a file. Then I used sandpaper to polish it. Then I put the string through the soapstone. It shows a spear head. I made it because it's important to the Inuit to catch food so they survive.

This is my appliqued wall hanging. I made it by drawing the animal on the felt. Then I cut the felt and sewed on it with a thread and needle. Then I put some stuff on. It shows a lemming under ground. I made it because the lemming is important to all the animals that hunt them for food all year long .

This is an example of Inuit stonecut on paper. It is made by Louis Nigoyuk (1994). It shows a drum dance in an igloo. This was the important to the Inuit because they dance and have a feast to celebrate.

This is my print. I made it by drawing on a piece of paper. Then I traced it on the styrofoam and rolled paint on the styrofoam and pressed paper down on it .It shows an inukskuk. I made it because it guides your way home.
