Inuit art

By Gordon and Jay Jay

This is a example of an Inuit mask. It is made by carving wood, painting it and adding feathers. It shows a ptarmigan spirit. This was important to the Inuit because you could use the ptarmigan feathers for clothing and the eggs for eating.

This is my mask. I made it by carving clay and painting it. It shows a walrus spirit. I made it because we are learning about Inuit art.

This is my applique wall hanging. I made it by drawing a picture and then I traced my picture on the felt. Then I sewed it on the fleece. It shows a wolf and a moon. I made it because a wolf is an important animal in the Arctic.

This is my print. I made it by drawing a picture of a walrus, tracing it on styrofoam. Then I put paint on the styrofoam print and paper over it. It shows a walrus and an iceberg. I made it because a walrus is important for food and clothing to the Inuit people.
