Inuit Art by Bianca
This my soapstone sculpture. I made it with sandpaper and a big file. It is a big ice block of an igloo. It shows a nice crack just like a big iceberg. I made it because the Inuit use ice blocks to build igloos.
This is an example of an Inuit soapstone sculpture by Alacie Sakiagaq and John Ohokak. It is made with soapstone and wood. It is made by carving it and polishing it with a file and sandpaper. It shows a picture of a family inside an igloo. This was important to the Inuit because they built igloos to live in, keep warm, and be safe.
This is my mask. I made it with some clay. I cut some pieces with a knife. I took two pieces of clay for the eyes. It shows a bear face. I made it because the bear taught the Inuit how to fish.
This is an example of an Inuit applique wall hanging by Normee Ekoomiak. It is made with felt applique and embroidery. It shows people tossing a woman in the air. This was important to the Inuit because this was one kind of game they played and it made them stronger.
This is my applique wall hanging. I made it by drawing a picture and then tracing it on the felt. Then I cut it out and sewed it on some fleece. It shows a polar bear walking on thin ice. I made it because the polar bear taught the Inuit how to fish and catch seals.
This is my print. I made it by cutting the side of the styrofoam plate and drawing a picture pressing hard on the styrfoam. Then I painted it with a roller and put it under the paper. It shows a picture of an igloo. I made it because the igloo is the home for the Inuit.
