Fast Facts about Igloos by Devon Quincy and Jayde 1. Igloo means snowhouse. 2. It is a dome shaped because it needs less material and because it has more space. It is strong and domes don't need inside walls to keep the roof up. Domes can be used for whole buildings and a dome is like an upside down bowl. 3. It is built in a spiral and it is used with blocks of snow. Also there is one room in an igloo. The igloo is one whole room where they store, tell and do everything. There also is an oil lamp in it too. It takes two hours to build one snowhouse. Igloos are warm places to be in. 4. Inuit built a home like this because it has lots of space and it does not need lots of things for it. Also you don't have to build inside walls. 5. Igloos are made in Nunavut and in the Arctic. They were found in Nunavut and also in the Arctic. 6. Inuit used a saw, snow shovel and a snow probe. 7. The igloos were made up to the 1980's. The igloos are still built today. Hunters build igloos to live in while they are out catching animals. 8. Inuit people live in modern houses now instead of igloos because in the past Inuit didn't have modern houses. |
