Arctic Fox

Habitat

In the tundra there are short summers. In summer the sun never sets. It's called the Arctic tundra because there are no trees there. There are lots of blizzards. Dwarf trees are found in Canada, Alaska, Europe and Asia. There are lots of icebergs.

Appearance

Arctic foxes are mammals. It has a bushy tail. It has a short nose and short round ears. It's gray-brown on its back and white on its belly.

Food

It eats fish, arctic hare, arctic char and ptarmigan.

Enemies

People hunt it for its fur.

Adaptations

It has thick fur to keep it warm. It changes colour with the seasons. This colour change, called molting, is natures way of giving camouflage to the arctic fox.

 

Interesting Facts

They don't live in groups. A male fights for the right to mate with a female. There are four main types of foxes in North America -the red, the grey, the arctic and the kit.
