Polar Bear

Arctic Habitat

It is treeless and it grows flowers and grasses and there's very short summers. It's called the Arctic Tundra because it's so close to the northpole. The temperature doesn't get high in the summer. The soil is frozen 30 cm. deep even in the summer. It's called permafrost. You could get a blizzard in the Arctic and it's covered by snow more than half the year and the water is very cold .

Appearance

They have white fur and have lots of sharp teeth. They have really small tails. Older bears have yellowed creamy coloured fur. They have lots of thick fur to keep warm.

Enemies

Their enemies are hunters, Inuit and other people.

Food

They eat seal, fish, walrus, ducks, geese and even dead meat laying on the ground that is called carrion.

Adaptations

They have two layers of thick fur.

Interesting Facts

Polar bears have nearly 9 cm. of thick fur. The mother eats 59 kg. of food. Polar bears live about 40 years. They can swim in water 95 km. without resting and go weeks without eating. The adults weigh 656 kg. They can swim about 45 mph. Their feet are like snowshoes.
