power tools. This program will give its students.
Grade 8
The grade 8 woodlworking technology
program is intended to expand upon the experiences of its
students in Grade 7. More emphasis will be placed on machine
and power tool operation, fastening techniques, as well as
the safety procedures needed to operate woodworking equipment.
In addition, students will take a closer look at the design
and planning of both mass produced and custom made products.
Woodwork 15G
In this half credit course,
students explore this area through a variety of individual
projects and assignments. Students will focus on safety in
the shop, correct use of tools and machines, and the design
and planning process used in the woodworking industry. All

Woodwork Technology 20G
The woodwork course at the Grade
10 level expands upon the information and skills learned in the
Middle School and Grade 9 level. Most of the emphasis at the Grade
10 level is based on machine safety, project design and planning,
basic construction techniques, wood joinery and finishing techniques.
the student will design their own project, plan the construction
process and manufacture the project. Along the way there will be
situations where problem solving will come into play, as well as
an opportunity to make educated decisions as to what types of wood
joints to use for strength and appearnace, wood types and desired
finishes on the finished product. One of the benefits of the course
is the basic understanding of construction techniques that may help
t;he student in repairing or fixing certain problems around the
house. Materials are available from the lab for a minimal cost.
Note: This course may be used for
credit towards the Grant Park Technology Diploma.
Woodwork
Technology 30G & 40S
Although there is no prerequisite
for taking Wood 30G or 40S, having completed Wood 20G would be a
great benefit. These two courses take the basic knowledge and skills
acquired in the 20G course and expand upin them. Major emphasis
is placed on the design and construction of a project of the students
own choosing. Areas of study include: shop safety, design principals,
machine operations, wood joinery and finishing techniques. Some
of the project ideas that have been manufactured in lab include:
coffee and end table sets, chaval morrors, entryway benches, display
cabinets and computer tables. At the end of the semester, a student
should have all the basic construction principles assoicaited with
furniture design. Materials are available through the lab at minimal
cost, but some specialty items such as hinges, handles or glass
table insers must be supplied by the student.
Note: This course may be used for
credit towards the Grant Park Technology Diploma. |
