Clothing Housing and Design

Grade 7

Grade seven students will have the opportunity to practice and improve their sewing skills while constructing a simple fabric project. Students will learn lab safety and proper use of equipment.

Grade 8

Grade eight students will learn how to identify pattern markings and instructions, while creating a simple garment. Textile studies, instruction on lab safety and use of specialized equipment will also be included.

Grade 9

In this half credit course, students will learn how to create a garment form a commercial pattern that fits their figure while increasing their sewing skills. Introduction to wardrobe planning and consumer knowledge will also be explored.

This couse may be used for credit towards the Grant Park Technology Diploma.

 

Grade 10

Is my skirt length the right length? Students study the principles and elements of design which assist them with selecting garments that suit their body type. Students who enjoy sketching fashion designs will enjoy the sketching classes however drawing ability is not required. Students will learn introductory computer aided pattern development using computer programs such as CADtern and AutoSketch. Students will demonstrate basic sewing skills be creating several small fashion items such as an apron, pajama bottoms and a t-shirt. Students will also construct a garment of their choice as a major project that reflects their sewing skills.

This couse may be used for credit towards the Grant Park Technology Diploma.

Grade 11

Students learn about the evolution of dress from the first animal skins to the fashions of the "Roaring 20's". Students expand their computer aided pattern development and start to develop patterns using computer programs such as CADterns and AutoSketch. Intermediate sewing skills such as facing, waistbands and collars are introduced and are practiced in sewing small fashion items such as a skirt. Students will also construct a garment of their choice as a major project that reflects their sewing skills.

Additional assignments will be required to meet the "S" status.

This couse may be used for credit towards the Grant Park Technology Diploma.

Grade 12

This couse will proide you with some applied textile design skills such as beading, stencilling, air brushing, applique work, advanced embroidery and machine embroidery, as well as advanced sewing skills so that you can create a unique garment. Some time will be devoted to learning how to create your own patterns using a computer-aided pattern-making software package. Sewing project for this level may include graduation dresses, jackets, trousers and will reflect the sewing skills of the individual.

This couse may be used for credit towards the Grant Park Technology Diploma.
