University Access Programs
University of Manitoba - What is Access? A support program for students who are studying at the Fort Garry Campus.
~ 4 ACCESS Programs ~
UMAP (University of Manitoba Access Program) - Open to students who are pursuing degrees in Social Work, Human Ecology, and Law with the goal of attracting students who would not normally attend university, and provide those students with the supports needed to succeed.
EAP (Education Access Program) - Designed to help students gain entry into the Faculty of Education. Must enter from the general UMAP to be eligible.
The HCAP (Health Careers Access Program) - Exclusively for Aboriginal students who have an interest in the professional health field, (e.g. medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, etc...) The program offers extended courses in chemsitry and physics for those students who do not have a strong background for math and science.
PHP (Professional Health Program) - Provides support to HCAP (Health Careers Access Program Students) and Aboriginal students who have been accepted into a professional health -related field.
Aboriginal Focus Program - Located at Children of the Earth high school, the AFP is a transition year program that enables students to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for success in post-secondary education. New Program, Start Date: September 2008.
~ University of Winnipeg ~
Introduction to University - Course provides useful strategies for reading texts, taking notes, study skills, and paper writing skills. Course available for high school students wishing to prepare for university. The course will be offered in day and/or evening formats in July and August 2008. If a grade of C+ or better is achieved, the course counts as a threecredit hour course towards an undergraduate degree however, it will not contribute to the student's G.P.A. (grade point average). Global Welcome Centre - A resource at the University of Winnipeg that provides supports for newcomers, immigrants, and additional-language students in their transition to post-secondary education.
Global Welcome Centre's Summer Transition Program - Designed to assist prospective students receive adequate information and advice in their preparation for university. Free workshops, activities, and courses to assist students with the transition into post-secondary education.
