Social Issues

One social issue is unemployment. In 1998 5% of the American

population was unemployed. That is the highest in U.S. history.

Since their is unemployment there is also poverty. Another issue is

Health care. The price of health care has many patents mad. There

is a plan to cut health care prices this year. Homeless people are

another issue. I don’t the percentage of homeless people. The

government is doing its best to help the homeless people in

America.

Animals

Many animals need plants to survive. Different vegetation zones

home different animals. In the Arctic areas or tundra marmots,

caribou, squirrels and bears live. Also fish live in the Arctic these

are trout, grayling, and seals and walrus. In hardwood forest

moose, bears (black), deer and foxes live. Some birds live in the

forests. On the Gulf of Mexico there are pelicans, flamingoes,

alligators and snakes. These animals need a warmer climate to

survive. Animals that live in grasslands are bison, ferrets, prairie

dogs, and gophers. Grass fires are a problem for these animals. In

the mountains there is elk, pronghorn, deer, moose, bighorn sheep,

goats, timber wolves and brown bears. Many of these animals are

big game. The biggest carnivore is the Kodak bear. No large

animals live in deserts kangaroo rats and types of lizards live in

these areas. The only animal in Hawaii is the bat.

History

The first settlement in the U.S. was in Jamestown, Virginia in

1907. The leader was John Smith from London Company. They

had lots of trouble with famine. The very first humans on North

America were the Native Americans. It is unknown when they

arrived into North America. The U.S. began with only 13 states.

Between 1776-1861 it went from 13 to 36 states. On April 12

1861 the civil war began. It was the union vs. the confederacy. It

ended on May 26 1865. In total 600 000 were dead, and there was

$5 billion worth of property destroyed. Slavery was the main cause

of the war. They were debating on weather to have slavery in the

western states. People in the south deponed on slavery. In the north

slavery was illegal. The confederacy surrender in the end. There

have been 41 presidents. The first president was George

Washington, 1789-1793. The second president was John Adams.
