Jennifer Heil

Canada’s Hope

Jennifer Hiel ,pronounced Hyle, became Canada’s best hope for an Olympic gold medal

in women’s moguls after earning the title “World Cup Rookie of the Year” last season at

the age of 17. Jennifer Heil finished the 2000-2001 season ranked fourth in the world cup

moguls standings. She created some drama for the home team at the 2001 World

Championships in Blackcomb, British Columbia. She baraly advanced to the final. After

seven skiers, the high school senior was in first place. After 10 competitors, she still

stood in medal contention. She ended the day seventh overall.

Born Competitor

Jennifer Heil has been skiing since she was 2. She has been competiting her whole life .

“I like to push limits in everything and find where they are,” she adds. She used to run

cross-country and set records in junior high school but quit becouse of shin problems.

She also was really into volleyball but was too short. She swam for 11 years and

competed in provincials. She had a freestyle even in the pool. She credits her athletic

father, Randy, for teaching her to ski moguls in the Canadian Rockies which are about 20

miles from their family’s condo in Radium, British Colombia. Occasionlly, she can even

be seen playing on a snowboard in the half pipes.

Taking Control

Jenniffer Heil can be heard and seen on video singing backup on teammate, Jean-Luc

Brassard’s hip hop rapsong, “Take Control,” which was created as a fundraiser for

freestyle skiers in financial need.

Why I Like Her

I like her because she is a skier and I like skiers because they like skiing and so do I.
