Kelly Clark

Why I Chose To Research About Kelly Clark

I chose Kelly Clark because I saw her win the gold in the Olympics for snowboarding

and she was on the computer. So I picked her. She is really cool and good and she does

my favorite tricks like the mctwist and the airtofaky and the 5-40. I also like that she is

a girl instead of a boy because most people think that only boys can snowboard.

Another reason why I chose Kelly Clark is because two of my friends are picking her.

That’s only one little reason why I chose Kelly Clark.

Personal Information

Kelly Clark is a girl. She was born July 26,1983. Her height is 6.5m or 5’5”. She

weighs 58kg or128lbs.She’s a snowboarder. Her event is women’s halfpipe. She’s an

American.

Kelly started off as a fourth grader skier but she found out that wasn’t her thing.  So she

started snowboarding and got better and better.  Kelly Clark was the first American to

get a gold medal in the women’s halfpipe competition. Kelly Clark flew higher and

nailed more dangerous tricks than anyone in the halfpipe.

Going for Gold

Kelly Clarks mark of 47.9 easily beat Doriane Vidal of France who scored a 43.0 to win

the silver. The first medal of these Olympics for her country. The 18-year-old Kelly

Clark won the gold with 30 seconds of cheering and shouting in which most of the fans

were on her side. Kelly Clark’s victory marked the first gold medal for the United

States in Olympic snowboarding. Winning the gold medal wasn’t easy, and it sure

wasn’t easy for Kelly Clark. She bruised her tailbone during a hard fall in training and

had to sit out a day and ice it down. “I can’t even explain what I was feeling on the

pipe.”she said. “I was so excited.”

Things I Found Interesting About Kelly Clark

I found out that Kelly Clark was the first American girl snowboarder to get a gold

medal. I found that interesting. I also found out that Kelly Clark bruised her tailbone

during a hard fall at practice and had to sit out a practice and ice it down. Another

interesting thing is that she started snowboarding in the fourth grade and I started in the

third. Just a year apart! Another thing I found interesting was that Kelly Clark nailed

more high and dangerous tricks. I also found out that Kelly Clark does my favorite trick

the mctwist. Plus most people would think that only boys snowboard but Kelly Clark is

a girl and she won the gold medal in the women’s halfpipe.
