Jamie Sale

Why I Chose Jamie Sale

I chose to research about Jamie, because I was watching figure skating on T.V. and Jamie

Sale and her partner David Pelletier were on next. So I watched their performance, they

were great. I wanted to learn more about them. When they got silver I was happy, but

when the judges said they did a gold performance I thought they should have got gold

too! I was so happy when they got gold of course. I watched them get their gold medals! I

was so happy they got it!

Jamie's Personal Life

Jamie Sale ( pronounced JAY-mee sah-LAY). She is 34, she was born on April 21st

1977. Jamie was born in the town of Red Deer, Alberta. She is 1.55m or 5’1” tall. She

weighs 127 lbs. She skates with David Pelletier.

World Champions

Jamie and David came in third place after their short performance at the 2000 World

competition. They were in an excellent position to get a gold medal entering the free

skate. At the 2000 Worlds in Nice, France Jamie made an accident in the free skate and

the they came in fourth. At the 2001 Worlds, Jamie stayed in her pose and also skated

very well! The program was good enough to move them to the gold medal position over

1998 Olympic silver medalists and two-time world champions Yelean Berezhnaya and

Anton Sikharulidze of Russia. They didn’t have the best of performance for the 2001

Worlds. In the week and half before the they left for Vancouver, Canada, David's car

was stolen and his house was burned in a house fire leaving him without a home. Jamie

had a few problems too, she burned her hand on coffee, which left her unable to do

practices for two days. She lost a lucky necklace that her last choreographer had given

her.

Beginning of a Partnership

Jamie is David's fourth partner in his 14-year career. They got together on March

10,1998 but they went into things so fast that Jamie ended up with tendinitis. Then they

had to miss two and a half months of practising after she had surgery to operate on her

achilles tendon. David and Jamie have been skating together since July 1998. They

actually tried out together in 1996, but for various reasons , were not matched together.

Jamie now says the timing just wasn’t right then. Jamie came in 12th in the year of 1994

with Jason Tunner at the age of 17. That spring, she placed in 16th at the World

Championships in Chida, Japan. The best Jamie ever did was 3rd place in the 1995

Canadian Nationals in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She called David two times before things

finally happened. They both left their previous coaches to work with Richard Gauthier,

who they had since left to train with Jan Ullmark, who is based in Edmonton. The pair

still works with Michelle Kwan’s choreographer, Lori Nichol “ Lori brings out the best in

skating.” Jamie speaks English while David speaks French.

Bladed Beginnings

Jamie stepped on ice when she was 3, at a rink down her street. She wore double-bladed

skates to help her skate. Her mother signed her up for gymnastics and figure skating

classes when she was only 5 years old! When she was 7 she chose figure skating.
