Pad Absorption
My name is Michael and my partner's name is Jhonattan. Our title of our project was Pad Absorption. We used the feminine pads to see which one would absorb the most liquid.
The reason why we choose this topic was because our friends in our class did their project on diapers and it just gave us an idea about pad absorption.
Our problem was what is the effect of thin feminine pads with no wings on the absorption of a liquid? We thought that the brand name always would absorb the most liquid.
Our materials are 4 different brands of pads, Maxi pads, always, kotex and no name. We also used 2 measuring cups, water and blue food coloring.
Our method is....
1.Gather all materials pads, water and food coloring
2.Mix food coloring and water together
3. Tell volunteers to hold pads while we pour the water into the pads
4. Pour a quarter of a cup water into each pad
5. Keep doing this until all pads had leaked then record information
We saw that the brand name Kotex leaked only after 3/4 of a cup was poured into it. Next was the no name brand which leaked just before 1 cup was finished being poured into it. The Maxi pad didn't last much longer then the no name. The brand name always worked the best in holding the most liquid, it leaked after 1 and a quarter cups was poured.
Our conclusion is....
According to our hypothesis we were correct and the brand name Always absorbed the most liquid out of all the others.
Our application is...
this project can be used to tell woman and/or teenaged girls which brand of pads work best on absorbing liquids during their menstrual cycle.
The easiest part was the survey because we just had to hand out the paper for the students to answer. The hardest part was finding feminine pads because it's hard to ask girls for a sample. One surprise was that the girls weren't shy to give us some.
I think that we did pretty well because we got silver. The way that we could have improved our project is to do more research and to fix our backboard a little more.
Our science fair project can be improved by actually showing our experiment to the judges.
The most important thing that we learned from participating in science fair is seeing different people doing their experiments. This told us that there are so many experiments that could be done.
