Click To PreviewBacteria In Tap Water

Problem- To see what kinds of bacteria are in tap water.

Hypothesis- We think the bacteria in the Agar would grow in three or four days.

We think that the bacteria without chlorine would really grow and have all kinds of different bacteria. It might also have all kinds of colours and shapes. The different colours might indicate all differentnet types of bacteria inside the tap water. We would find out how many bacteria were inside our tap water.

We think that bacteria with chlorine would grow and later in the chlorine would kill some of the bacteria. If some of the bacteria were killed, we would know that if you use a filter that's how much your water would have benn cleaned out! The bateria would have been different colors to indicate all kinds of bacteria and when the chlorine is killing the bacteria it might not see the chlorine killing the bacteria by disappearing or even just overlapping.

Materials- Experiment materials-2 Agars jars,2 Q-tips, a sample of tap water, a pair of plastic gloves and a role of tape

Backboard materials- construction papers, thin colored papers, markers, pens, pencils, rulers, scissors and tape

Procedure- Step 1- turn on the tap water

Step 2- then turn off the tap water

Step 3- take a q-tip and rub it under the tap

Step 4- take one agar and open it

Step 5- take the same q-tip and rub it around the inside of the jar

Step 6- take tape and seal the agar jar. Then label it

Step 7- take the chlorine/bleach bottle

Step 8- get another q-tip and dip it into the chlorine/bleach bottle

Step 9- then take another agar jar, open it and rub the q-tip onto the jar

Step 10- then seal it with tape and label it

Observation- Day 1- did experiment

Day 2- didn't grow bacteria yet

Day 3- still didn't grow bacteria yet

Day 4- saw a few dots of bacteria

Day 5- saw a few more dots of bacteria

Day 6- bacteria started to change color (yellow)

Day 7- still the same as yesterday

Application- People are putting chlorine in swimming pools so that it will kill bacteria/germs. They just put an amount of chlorine because if they put a lot then it can make other people's skin all rashy and kids maybe will drink it.
