Science Fair

Our school recently had a science fair and there were a lot of science fair projects. My partner Vanessa and I did a project called "Music Vs. Heart Rate" we didn't win anything, but it was okay because there is always next year and the next year after that.

~~This is a picture of what my partner and my project looks like.~~

Music Vs. Heart Rate

Problem: What is the effect of our heart beat to the sound of different types of music?

Hypothesis: We believe that slow music will slow your heart beat down and fast music will speed your heart beat up.

Materials: CD Player, CD's (Pop, Rap, Slow), Calculator, Graph Paper

Method: 1) Gather all materials and get a bunch of friends.

2) Tell the first person to take their pulse and time them for 10 seconds.

3) Give them the CD player and play the first type of music.

4) After they finish the first type of music, they repeat step 2.

5) Multiply the heart rate by six and continue step 3 and 4 until they listen to all the types of music.

6) Get every person to do step 2, 3, 4 and 5.

7) Get all the data and put it on a graph.

Data/Observation: After the experiment, we found out that some people's heart rate went higher while listening to the different types of music.

Kirstie  - Her heart rate increased while listening to the pop song and her heart rate increased again while she was listening to the rap and slow songs.

Jane  - Her heart rate increased while listening to the pop and rap song, but when it came to the slow song, her heart rate decreased.

Randy  - His heart rate decreased from his normal heart rate when listening to the pop song, but when he listened to the rap and slow song, his heart rate increased.

Mike  - His heart rate decreased from his normal heart rate when listening to the pop song and decreased again when listening to the rap song. When it came to the slow song, his heart decreased by six.

Conclusion: This science fair project was unfair because the experiment didn't make any sense. Certain people like certain types of music and it also depends on their age. When we did the experiment, we didn't make sure if the place we were doing our experiment was a good place to do it because there were a lot of distractions. If we were to do the experiment again, we would make sure that the experiment would have to be somewhere, where there were no distractions.

Application: You can never tell whether someone likes the music or not by the person's heart rate and that is what changes your life.
