Our Ideas About this Project

Aboriginal Project

by Angelo

We displayed our Aboriginal Art Project on June 13.  We made invitations for our parents.  We got our ideas from Norval Morrisseau.  He is a famous Aboriginal artist.  We drew in his style.  It was kind of hard.

First we looked over Morrisseau's art, then we chose an animal and drew it onto a piece of paper.  We drew a few pictures of different animals and then we picked one to trace onto another piece of paper.  Then we placed the traced sheet over some styrofoam.  We made marks in the styrofoam using the traced paper.  Mr. Halas helped us a lot in this project.

He gave us information about how Morrisseau's art was made and why.

After we made the marks on the styrofoam, we removed the traced paper.  Then we rolled some paint onto the styrofoam with a roller.  We placed the styrofoam face up and pressed a coloured paper onto the wet paint.  Then we lifted the print off the styrofoam and we let it dry.  Afterwards, we coloured in the prints with chalk pastels.  And, that's the story of our prints!

Aboriginal Art Project

This is how we did the Aboriginal Project.  First, we looked at Norval Morrisseau's drawings.  We figured out why Norval Morrisseau drew these drawings.  We tried to copy this style from Norval Morrisseau but nobody got it perfect.

Next, we picked our picture of an animal.  I picked a deer.  Then we had to draw the inside of the animal.  We had to make different kinds of shapes inside the body. Next we had to outline it with permanent marker, and then trace it on thin paper.

After that, Mr. Halas came with paints and styrofoam.  We took the picture of an animal and put it on top of the styrofoam.  We traced it onto the styrofoam.

After that, Mr. Halas painted the styrofoam to be printed on a wide construction paper.  I chose the color black.  When it was printed on the construction  paper, we waited for it to dry till the next day.  When it was dried, we colored it with chalk pastels.  It looked awesome!

Next, we had a meeting at the music room.  Mr. Halas was there and so were all the kids that he worked with in Faraday School. We shared our pictures with everyone.  Then Mr. Halas said to go in groups of 5.  In our group, Mr. Halas gave sticky paper for writing comments to the group.  Gerald was the photographer.  Then Mr. Halas gave tags to all of us.  We wrote comments again.  I liked this project because it showed me how to draw in different ways.  I liked this Aboriginal Art Project.
