How Polar Bears are White

Many years ago the Polar Bear was all black.

The Polar Bear was very hungry.  So he went down to the river to eat.

He went to the North Pole to see if he would get white. So he sat there a long time.

Nothing happened.  So he went down to the city.

And he was walking under a ladder and he bumped it. A whole bunch of white paint fell on him and when they had babies they were all white.

That is why today Polar bears are all white.

Why the Eagle Has a White Head

This story is dedicated to my family.  The illustrations are for Michelle, my old friend.

A million years ago, when Eagle was all brown, there lived a very very rich and famous artist.  He was famous for his beautiful paintings.

On the other end of the country, there lived a sky doctor.  He cared for injured birds.

One of the patients was Eagle.  She was just recovering from a sprained wing.  Her brown feathers shimmered as sky doctor took off the cast  on her wing.

Skydoctor took Eagle outside to see if she could fly yet.  Skydoctor heaved her into the air and she took off.  Now, Eagle had a nest in a giant oak tree.  Her hatchlings were waiting for her.

But Eagle had no food to give them so she took off.  There was no mice anywhere. So she flew farther and still there was no mice!!

She flew all the way to the other end of the country where the artist lived.

Eagle knew he had lots of meat, so she flew in the window.

The artist was just getting ready for another painting.

"WHITE PAINT!!!!" he commanded to his servant girl.

While the servant girl was busy at the cupboard, Eagle flew toward the artist.

She could tell he was in a rotten mood.

The servant girl was just coming back.  Eagle flew right in front of her.

The servant girl was startled, and spilled the paint on Eagle's head.

Eagle quickly flew home frightened. When she got there, her children had identical white heads.

And that is why the Eagle has a white head to this very day.

But no one knows how her children had the same white heads when they weren't even touched.

Why Lions Roar

This book is dedicated to my Grandpa and Grandma and my teacher.

Many years ago lions didn't roar, they growled.

One day Papa Zebra was in the forest behind a tree.  Suddenly, lion came to ask why are you behind that tree?

The zebra laughed at the lion.  The lion turned around and roared and roared.  The lion had never roared before because he had never been angry.

"Why are you laughing?  It's not funny!" The lion yelled.

"Oh I'm sorry lion.  I was like that because you are funny,"  giggled the zebra.

"Why do you think I'm funny, Zebra?" the lion asked.

"I think you're funny because you're roaring,"  Zebra answered.

"Oh!  Why do I roar anyway?  When did I get my roar?"   The lion didn't know.  How did he get his roar?

The next day the Zebra woke the lion up.  The Zebra knew how the lion got his roar.

"I know how did you get your roar," the Zebra grunted.

"When you were a baby you can't roar, but when you are angry at people you roar," the Zebra muttered.

That's why lions roar now.

Why Hamsters Have Short Tails!

This book is dedicated to my family

There was a boy hamster.
He was a really nice and thoughtful, caring hamster.

He went to go and help his girlfriend, he went to her house.

He went into the kitchen and mumbled "HI, How are you today?"

She reassured him, "I am doing good today.  I need some help with this pot."

He decided, OK I will help you because you help me.

So he picked up the pot and went to pour it into the sink.

But instead he spilled it on his girlfriends' tail.
Her tail got steamed off, so they went to the hospital.
The doctor cried softly that they could not do anything.
So they went home.
The girlfriend liked the way she looked, so she thanked the boy hamster. That is why hamsters have short tails.
