Messages from the Principals

Wow!!  May came and went in a flash!  The highlight for May certainly was the Grade 4-6 production of "The Emperor's New Clothes."  Congratulations to all the students, on stage and behind the scenes, who did a fantastic job.  Also, a big thank you to all the staff who gave up many hours of their time to make the production the success it was.  Broadway, here we come!!!

As usual, June is a very busy month, with many activities planned in the school as well as in the community.  It will go by even faster that the month of May did!  Please note that final school report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, June 24.  This will give you time to review the report card with your child and phone the school if there are any questions.  The last day of classes will be on Friday, June 27 for the morning only.  Classes will be dismissed for the day at 12:00.  There is no school on Monday, June 30.  Please note that classes fro Grade 1 to 6 students will resume Wednesday, September 3.  Nursery and Kindergarten will begin on Friday, September5.

We are looking for nursery aged students for the upcoming year.  If you know of a family in your neighbourhood who has a 4 year old child let them know they can register for the nursery program at Faraday by calling the school at 596-8583.

June is when we say farewell to our Grade 6 students who will move on with their frinds to Grade 7.  What a great group of students!  We are going to miss each and every one of them.  They brought maturity and leadership to Faraday, and are well prepared for the challenges that await them in Junior High.  We are so proud of you!  Good luck, and remember to tell the rest of the world you were proud to be a student at Faraday!

Faraday also has a "graduating" staff member at the end of June, Mrs. Cloutier.  She has been at Faraday for 18 years, and is looking forward to her retirement, and all the possibilities it presents.  Mrs. Cloutier will be missed by the students, staff and community.

Mrs. Rutherford is also leaving Faraday to explore new challenges at Meadows West School in the fall.  Good luck, and maybe somewhere in your future a return visit to Faraday awaits?  You will also be missed by the staff, students and community.

As usual, please feel free to call your child's teacher if you have any questions about their school program.

Mr. R. Cockrem, Principal

Ms. J. Tourangeau, Vice-principal

FARADAY FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE NEWS…...

The last month of the school year is upon us and it has been another great year. The FFRC would like to thank all the volunteers that helped us throughout the year, because without your help the FFRC wouldn’t be so successful. Thank-you.

As the school year closes out there is one other project that we need volunteers for. The butterfly gardens on the south side of the school need some TLC. It doesn’t take much time and if you have a son/daughter it would show them the benefits of the gardens to nature. The biggest task is making sure that the weeds do not get out of control. If you have a day open during the summer then stop by Room 8 and speak with Tammy Shone and sign your name up on the calendar.

The FFRC is inviting parents to our year-end potluck. The potluck is on June 19th starting around 11:30 A.M. The  year-end potluck will be outside on the school grounds (Parr St. side) weather permitting. There are many activities for the children to do and the adults. Come and enjoy the last potluck of the year and meet with other members of the community. If you want to attend stop by and sign the sheet in Room 8.

The year end meeting of the FFRC is on June 19 at 3:30 P.M.

The FFRC wants to wish everyone a safe and happy summer. We look forward to seeing you back in September.

Patrol Report

The Faraday School Community would like to extend a great big Thank You to all the patrols and patrol captains for an excellent job this past year.

New patrols for the 2008-2009 have been trained and will be on post for the month of June.  There will be over 50 patrols again next year to ensure that the students of Faraday School arrive safely.

The Year End Patrol Wind-Up took place on Friday—May 16th.   The Patrols and Leaders went swimming in the morning,  returned to school for a barbeque then to Northgate Cinema City to watch a movie for the afternoon.  Just a way of saying thanks for their commitment and hard work.

Parent Involvement Committee Report

The Parent Involvement Committee would like to thank ABC Canada Literacy Foundation and Starbucks for the “Gift of Words Reading Circle” grant. Many families from the school participated and really enjoyed the program. Thanks for the support of all those involved with making this wonderful program possible. Reading truly is a gift of words!

 Music Notes

Congratulations to our Honour Choir Singers for a great concert on May 15th and a tour on May 21st.

It has been a great year and we wish the Grade Six’s good luck in Grade 7.

Please don’t forget to take your recorders home if you bought a coloured one.
