Goals and Objectives 2005-2006

LANGUAGE ARTS


The Language Arts Program will include:

bulletspelling
bulletguided reading groups
bulletwriting
bulletspeaking
bulletlistening 
bulletphonics
bullethandwriting
bulletsilent reading
bulletnovel study
bulletWriter's Workshop

The students will be expected to do daily spelling practice at home.  The children will select a home reading bag of books once a cycle.

MATHEMATICS

The Mathematics program will consist of:
bulletproblem-solving
bulletbasic facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
bulletpatterns and relations
bulletstatistics and probability
bulletnumber concepts
bulletgraphing
bullettelling time
bulletmoney
bulletgeometry

SOCIAL STUDIES

 A new Social Studies program is being implemented this year.  The units will include:

  1. Our Community
  2. Being a Canadian Citizen
  3. World Geography - exploring the world
  4. Communities around the world: a Metis Community and an Inuit Community
  5. Exploring an ancient community - China

 

SCIENCE
 The Science program will be taught by Mrs. Yakimoski.  The topics covered will be:
bulletGrowth and Change in Plants
bulletMaterials and Structures
bulletForces That Attract or Repel
bulletSoils in the Environment

LIONS QUEST  (SKILLS FOR GROWING)

This program encourages and reinforces positive social behaviour in children.
 The units covered in the Grade 3 program are:
  1. Building a School Community.
  2. Growing as a Group.
  3. Making Positive Decisions.
  4. Growing up Drug-Free.
  5. Celebrating You and Me.

HEALTH

Health will also be taught by Mrs. Yakimoski.  She will use the gym to teach the children how to make health life-style choices.
