In Faraday School computer technology is used as a tool in each curriculum area. Each class has a networked computer in the classroom and assigned time in the computer lab in order for the students to use computers for word processing, research, creation of presentations and reports and for practice with Language Arts and Math skills. Each classroom teacher determines the projects to be done using computers and the skills to be practised. Linda March is in the lab 2 days per school cycle to assist the teachers and students in using computer technology.
THE INTERNET
| Learn to access up to date information on subjects covered in their classrooms | |
| Use the information to do research projects, reports and and presentations |
In most cases, teachers use designated Internet sites in their lessons. These are book marked for the students and the students are instructed to stay within those sites. We have made it a general rule in the computer lab that sites promoting violence may not be accessed.
In addition, Grade 5 & 6 students will be given instruction in the use of e-mail, using an account provided by the Winnipeg School Division. They will be asked to use this account only with Faraday School teachers and their fellow students. If parents have an email account and have provided the address to their children, students may also email their parents. Students will not be allowed to contact strangers or anyone beyond the school and their own family.
Internet User Guidelines
While using the Internet at school, students will:
1. Not reveal personal information about themselves
and others
2. Use their best judgment at all times
3. Follow the rules established by the classroom
and computer teachers
4. Be responsible for their access to the Internet
5. Respect the rights and privacy of others
6. Exit immediately from any inappropriate sites
7. Not attempt to gain access to unauthorized
systems, programs or computer equipment
8. Use appropriate language and content
9. Respect copyright and credit sources in their
work.
Consequence of Inappropriate Internet Use
If a student is found violating any of the
guidelines, his or her Internet privileges will be suspended for a length
of time to be determined by the school.
Manitoba Education recommends that all students
be given the opportunity to access the Internet and develop telecommunication
skills. At Faraday, we see the Internet as one of many tools we use to
prepare our students as lifelong learners.
