In February, 1999, the students of Faraday School read approximately 20,000 books for I Love to Read Month. Principal Mr. R. LeGrand had promised that they could duct tape him to the gym wall if a paper chain with the names of the books could reach from his office all the way around the school, both upstairs and downstairs, and then back to his office. It was an exciting day when the chain was finally long enough! Mr. LeGrand tried to think of some good excuses for not being taped to the wall. He even brought a note from his mother saying he couldn't be taped, or so he claimed. However, finally he had no choice but to call a special assembly and let himself be taped up.
Students, parents and teachers had a lot of fun taping him up, and he found that he was extremely attached to the gym wall for that whole morning. Students and teachers entertained him with songs, jokes and their gym classes and he was finally released in time for lunch, just a little the worse for wear.
