The staff, students, caregivers and community make Faraday School a vibrant and exciting place.

Here is an overview of the many programs Faraday School offers:

STUDENTS

bullet"Talking Tools" a program that focuses on Language Development for Early Years students, staff, older student tutors and parents. Learning how to talk to little ones to maximize talk, how to ask questions that clarify thinking and a great start to beginning literacy.
bulletE.C.D.I. Project focusing on extending language through play for four year old Nursery Program students.
bulletHealthy Child-Healthy Life Choices a program that focuses on teaching children the importance of making healthy choices. The program involves teaching fitness ideas by involving children in daily "sit-ercise" getting the heart rate up by participating in physical activity in their classroom and on the playground. Nutrition on Wheels is a cart that has a countertop oven, crock pot and all the supplies and utensils for children to be actively involved in cooking nutritious snacks and meals. Monthly newsletter gives caregivers some articles about choosing an active lifestyle. No junk food policy and supplying healthy nutrition breaks.
bulletStudent Leadership Program where Grade Six students are selected to assist with tutoring younger students, computer helpers, organizing and running a Basic Motor-Fitness Program, Coaching younger grades intramurals and planning special activity days such as The Haunted Halloween Gym, Winter Carnival Day, Spring Gym and Summer Fun Day.
bulletIntramural Noon Hour Gym students of Grades 2 to 6 participate in daily cooperative sports such as volleyball, indoor soccer, low-organized games, basketball, etc.
bulletInterschool Sports where students are involved in tournaments between other neighbouring schools. Sports such as soccer, volleyball, beeball and baseball are played.
bulletMusic Programs such as Choir, Instrument Club, Handbell Group, concerts, school assemblies, Divisional Choir and spring musical are celebrated.
bulletBirthday Book Program is a joint project with North Point Douglas Parent-Child Coalition. Every student receives a gift of a book on their birthday. The books are wrapped and presented by either the principal or vice-principal on the child's birthday.
bulletDental Clinic in partnership with the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry. Children have their individual dental needs assessed and then work is scheduled to take place during school hours. School provides supervision and transportation to the clinic. All procedures are done for free.
bulletNursing Students Partnership is a program that benefits children and the nursing students at the Faculty of Nursing. Nursing students are paired to observe and assist children in the classrooms. Teachers identify tasks that are beneficial to children and nursing students. Children are observed in the classroom and at recess on the playground. The last visit is when the nurses deliver a lesson on an identified health topic. A win-win partnership.
bulletToy Lending Library was created and digitally catalogued for a parent/caregiver and their child to sign one toy out per week. All toys are educational and motivating. Lots of playing and imagination is used.
bulletBook Buddies is where older classrooms are partnered with younger classrooms and students enjoy the benefits of paired reading. The relationships created last for many years creating a positive learning environment at school and in the community.
bulletClubs where staff and community members give students the opportunity to learn from one another by participating in a myriad of clubs before and after school. Some clubs that have been offered are Water Polo, A Not Oprah Book Club, Knitting Klub, Not So Real Makeover, Cooking Bannock, Floor Hockey, etc.
bulletOutdoor Education Experiences all students are given an opportunity through day trips to learn how nature can teach us, learn how to value and protect our environment and how to enjoy our natural surroundings. Trips to Fort Whyte Nature Centre, Oak Hammock Marsh, Bird's Hill Provincial Park, Assiniboine Park, Manitoba Farm Vacations and Little Mountain Park are a few of the many places students have visited.
bulletQuantum Program is a division program that Faraday School participates in for our gifted students in the areas of drama, dance and art.

PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/COMMUNITY

bulletFaraday Parent Resource Centre  this is a newly created place where parents and community members can share ideas, learn new things and celebrate the joys of being a mother or father. Resources are available and community groups can create workshops and offer support. Parents are the first and most important teacher!
bulletFaraday School Parent Council is a council that supports the programs, staff and students. They assist the running of the school by acting in an advisory capacity and managing a budget to run a Lunch Program and Fundraising Campaigns.
bulletFaraday School Parent Involvement Committee runs the Parent Resource Centre and researches and creates programs that will benefit parents and their families.
bulletMother Goose Program is where parents and caregivers participate with their child to use nursery rhymes as the basis for a fun time together. The program includes action rhymes, word plays, giggles and hugs.
bulletRock and Read is a continuation of the beginning literacy skills learned at Mother Goose. Participants create family books and learn about the power of picture books.
bulletVolunteer Program parents and community members are welcome to help with the many jobs needed to be done to support learning. A volunteer orientation and screening is done before volunteers give their gift of time. Working directly with children, assisting in the library, supervising on field trips, and generally helping others are just a few ways volunteers make Faraday School the best it can be!
